Marketplace Brand Strategy Workshop

About this lecture

Why strategy before design

A lot of marketplace sellers invest in better photos or a redesigned store banner and then wonder why nothing changed. Visual improvements help when the underlying positioning is clear. When it is not, better design just makes the confusion look more expensive. This workshop is the thinking work that should happen before any of that.

The market validation question at the center of everything

The workshop opens with a structured exercise on how to validate if there is a market for your product. We look at actual search data, review counts across competitors, price distribution in the category, and seasonal patterns. This is not a theoretical exercise. By the end of it, you have a clear picture of whether your current category is worth competing in and what it would take to win a meaningful slice of it.

What happens in the session

The workshop runs for four hours across two sessions, with homework between them. In the first session we cover market positioning and competitive landscape. In the second we define your brand platform: who you are for, what makes you the better choice for that specific buyer, and how that translates into listing decisions. You leave with a written positioning document and a prioritized action list.

Format and who attends

Remote, via video call. Works best with one to three people from the same business. Solo sellers are welcome. The workshop is not a lecture. It is a working conversation, and the output quality depends on how specifically you can talk about your product and your buyers.

What the lecture covers

1
Validating your market idea
How to validate if there is a market for your product — before spending months building something nobody wants. We look at real signals, not assumptions.
2
Positioning inside a marketplace
Understanding where your brand fits among existing sellers and how category placement shapes buyer perception from the first scroll.
3
Building a recognisable presence
Naming, visual identity, and language patterns that make repeat customers remember you — not just the platform you sell on.
4
Sustaining brand trust over time
Consistency in communication, handling negative feedback, and staying recognisable as the marketplace algorithm evolves.
